Devolution Has Been A ‘Disaster’ – For Johnson and the British Union

It is a rare occasion indeed when I agree with bungling Boris Johnson, but I cannot demur from his latest example of the foot in mouth disease he has suffered from most of his adult life. While holding virtual court in splendid Covid19 isolation at Number 10 Downing Street he issued an angry and exasperated declaration to some sixty Northern Tory MPs which underlines how fragile his flailing British Union is under his stewardship when he said devolution had been “a disaster north of the border”. Devolution has indeed been a “disaster”. But not for the people of Scotland. It […]

Scotland Joy – The 22 Year Hoodoo is Over – Bring on the English

Scotland as a nation erupted in joy last night as an embarrassing twenty-two-year record of failure to qualify for a major international football tournament was banished to the past. I appreciate it is only a football game and we are in the midst of a serious health crisis claiming lives daily and causing social and economic chaos but the incredible efforts of the Scotland players on the pitch in Belgrade, Serbia lifted the spirits of the whole country. Scorer of our excellent goal Ryan Christie did us all proud in his emotional interview immediately after victory in the penalty shoot-out […]

After Years of Undermining Other Country’s Elections US Now Looks Stupid

The slang phrase ‘couldn’t organise a piss up in a brewery’ rings in my ears this afternoon as media outlets carry the news that America’s top legal officer, the Attorney General William Barr, has ordered Federal prosecutors to begin investigations into what Barr has called “substantial allegations” of voter irregularities which lends legal cover and credibility to the Trump camp refusal to accept the outcome of last week’s US Presidential election. The country which struts across the globe lecturing everyone about democracy and interfering contemptuously and often illegally in other country’s democratic processes is now reduced to laughingstock status for […]

Seven Year Rule in Northern Ireland Must Be Applied to IndyRef2 Scottish Bid

Determined not to be outdone in the ‘democracy denial’ stakes we now have Alister Jack MP, the Tory Government appointed Scottish Secretary of State, mimicking the outrageous democracy denying comments of Donald Trump as he struggles to come to terms with the concept of actually counting all the votes cast in an election. Mr Jack was interviewed by the BBC the other day and stated categorically that no IndyRef2 referendum would ever be allowed by the Tories in Westminster for another “25 to 40 years”. The party that has lost every general election in Scotland for the last fifty years […]

I Have Faith in Young Americans – Trump is Toast

Americans go to the polls today, November 3rd. Will Trump emerge the victor against the odds, like he did in 2016? I say no. I believe Trump will be roundly rejected this time and I believe the key to his eviction from the White House will be the young people of America. Throughout the 2016 US Presidential election campaign, all the polls and the vast majority of pundits and psephologists predicted Hilary Clinton would beat Donald Trump. Clinton had led in the national polls for months and was also ahead in the dozen or so key swing states, which actually […]
