Ballymurphy and Bloody Sunday Murders – Charge Wilford and Jackson alongside the 1st Para Soldiers

By Tommy Sheridan Monday 25th March 2019 The Public Prosecution Service (PPS) of Northern Ireland took the decision last week to charge only one former British paratrooper with the murder of civil rights protesters in Derry on 30th January, 1972, in an atrocity which has become known as ‘Bloody Sunday’ https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2019/mar/14/one-soldier-to-face-charges-over-bloody-sunday-killings. Soldiers from the 1st Parachute Regiment opened fire on an unarmed civil rights march that day and shot 29 civilians. Thirteen of them died where they fell. The Willie McRae Mystery 34 Years On – More Likely Murder Than Suicide

By Tommy Sheridan 19th March 2019 In my humble opinion the death of Willie McRae is even more worthy of a full Public Enquiry now than it was 34 years ago when he died on 6th April 1985 in what can only be described as highly suspicious circumstances. I don’t believe McRae killed himself. I believe foul play caused his death and that the British security forces orchestrated and most probably carried out his murder. Those who knew the man well and have followed the story closely over the years refuse to accept the official suicide verdict. I am among […]

15th March 2019 by Tommy Sheridan A week from now thousands of ordinary citizens from across Scotland will assemble in the centre of Glasgow to stand up for a new and better Scotland extracted from the chaos, intolerance, hypocrisy and ignorant chauvinism which the British Parliament so clearly now represents. Determined to save their country from sinking further into a cesspool of greater inequality and damning mediocrity thousands will demand their Scottish Government use the hard won democratic mandate for IndyRef2 and allow Scots to launch the lifeboat of independence from the sinking ship of HMS Britannia https://vimeo.com/user96088976/review/322821011/181e14c1ba. ON INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY CELEBRATE THE INPIRATIONAL WOMEN WHO SURROUND YOU AS WELL AS THE HEROINES OF HISTORY

Today should not be about tokenism or empty rhetoric. Today should be about honouring, remembering, celebrating and recognising the millions of women across the planet who have shaped history, improved society, challenged sexism and defied the odds to conquer adversity. A book, let alone a column, could hardly do justice to the women who have shaped and enhanced my life personally and improved living conditions generally for everyone. What follows is a mere thread from the giant tapestry which represents the progressive role and contribution of women everywhere to our world. A progressive role and contribution which is all too […]

Venezuela Refuses to Become the 68th Sovereign Government Overthrown By America

Over my eleven years as an elected local government Councillor and eight years as a Member of the Scottish Parliament I championed many causes and found myself often in police cells, on picket lines, marching in demonstrations and the subject of scathing attacks in mainstream newspaper headlines and editorials. I wore such attacks as a badge of honour remembering the opinion of Labour’s first working class leader and MP, Keir Hardie, that when the press attack you it means you are doing something right. Perhaps it was that notoriety that made me very popular with journalism students anxious to conduct an interview for their course […]
