THIRTY YEARS AGO THATCHER FOISTED HER POLL TAX ON SCOTLAND – WE FOUGHT HER AND WON

By Tommy Sheridan 1st April 2019 The 30th anniversary of Mrs Thatcher’s hated poll tax is upon us. On April 1st 1989 the policy which was officially called the Community Charge but forever more is referred to as the Poll Tax was introduced in Scotland ahead of a roll out in England and Wales on 1st April 1990. It was never a UK wide roll out as the new tax was not introduced in Northern Ireland. The country of Scotland which had rejected Thatcher in 1979, 1983 and 1987 was chosen as the proverbial Guinea Pig for her Flagship Policy […]

SNP Must Stop Trying to Save Britain and Instead Resolve to Dissolve Britain

By Tommy Sheridan 29th March 2019 I am surely not the only advocate of independence for Scotland who has now reached frustration overload in the continuing shenanigans over Brexit. I appreciate the SNP is a mainstream social democratic political party which feels obliged to play the Westminster parlour games but whenever I hear the expression ‘putting country before party’ and ‘acting in the national interest’ I want to scream. Westminster stands for and represents the British Establishment in all its blood soaked, hypocritical and privilege defending glory. The UK is not a country. The UK is a voluntary political ‘union […]

Ballymurphy and Bloody Sunday Murders – Charge Wilford and Jackson alongside the 1st Para Soldiers

By Tommy Sheridan Monday 25th March 2019 The Public Prosecution Service (PPS) of Northern Ireland took the decision last week to charge only one former British paratrooper with the murder of civil rights protesters in Derry on 30th January, 1972, in an atrocity which has become known as ‘Bloody Sunday’ https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2019/mar/14/one-soldier-to-face-charges-over-bloody-sunday-killings. Soldiers from the 1st Parachute Regiment opened fire on an unarmed civil rights march that day and shot 29 civilians. Thirteen of them died where they fell. One died from his wounds a few months later and fifteen others were wounded but survived. All of the victims were aged […]

The Willie McRae Mystery 34 Years On – More Likely Murder Than Suicide

By Tommy Sheridan 19th March 2019 In my humble opinion the death of Willie McRae is even more worthy of a full Public Enquiry now than it was 34 years ago when he died on 6th April 1985 in what can only be described as highly suspicious circumstances. I don’t believe McRae killed himself. I believe foul play caused his death and that the British security forces orchestrated and most probably carried out his murder. Those who knew the man well and have followed the story closely over the years refuse to accept the official suicide verdict. I am among […]

In The Midst of the Brexit Storm Launch the Independence Lifeboat – Use the Mandate

15th March 2019 by Tommy Sheridan A week from now thousands of ordinary citizens from across Scotland will assemble in the centre of Glasgow to stand up for a new and better Scotland extracted from the chaos, intolerance, hypocrisy and ignorant chauvinism which the British Parliament so clearly now represents. Determined to save their country from sinking further into a cesspool of greater inequality and damning mediocrity thousands will demand their Scottish Government use the hard won democratic mandate for IndyRef2 and allow Scots to launch the lifeboat of independence from the sinking ship of HMS Britannia https://vimeo.com/user96088976/review/322821011/181e14c1ba. There are […]
