OVER 100,000 MARCH IN EDINBURGH – THERE IS AN APPETITE FOR INDYREF2

I’m still buzzing as I write this column. I’m not long back from Edinburgh and I was so proud and inspired to march alongside well over 100,000 other supporters of independence for Scotland. We filled our capital city today with men, women and children from all walks of life and scores of dugs as well. Sheldon is a kick in the arse off a horse and marched with purpose while Hamish was there with proud owner and SNP MP Brendan O’Hara and displayed impeccable manners and temperament. It was a pleasure to walk alongside them from Johnstone Terrace near to […]

Opportunity Knocks. Brexit Means Exit from the Abusive British Union

This column can exclusively reveal why Theresa May failed to turn up for a series of interviews with the UK’s major broadcasters yesterday prompting an unprecedented joint formal complaint to Downing Street about the shameful lack of access and public scrutiny of her actions https://www.shropshirestar.com/news/uk-news/2018/10/02/broadcasters-issue-formal-complaint-to-downing-street-over-lack-of-may-interviews/ Mrs May was escorted to Birmingham Central Police Station in Snowhill Queensway and subjected to a stringent set of controlled drug tests after suspicions were raised by a couple of alert undercover officers that the PM, known for her ‘naughty’ anti-farmer tendency to run through fields of wheat (https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2017/06/05/theresa-may-admits-running-fields-wheat-naughtiest-thing-ever/ ) may have been under the […]

Two Yorkshiremen With Different Views On Scottish Democracy

All political leaders face issues and decisions which define their legacy. There are always times when their ability to truly lead are put to the test. Richard Leonard has hardly been in his job of Scottish Leader of the British Labour Party but already his inadequacy for the job is plain for all to see. He is a relatively nice guy, I remember him from Stirling University Labour Club 37 years ago, but being nice is never enough to lead in the rough and tumble of politics. His performances at weekly Question Time debates in the Scottish Parliament have been […]

Always Ask Why?

The name Tony Blair is synonymous with lies, deceit, warmongering and mendacious manipulation of information to create a false but deliberate narrative. I rage whenever I am forced to listen to Blair’s pontifications but despite his despicable political record he is still guaranteed friendly media airtime whenever he chooses to bump his gums in pursuit of more lucrative speaking tour contracts or Saudi Arabian blood money for services rendered. Tony Blair should be prime time news but the story should revolve around his trial in The Hague as he sits in the dock accused of war crimes and complicity in […]

CASUAL BIGOTRY IS NOT A JOKE – STAND DOWN MR KERR

I really don’t want to write this column. I am convinced and very aware that many other topics are much more important. But I’m angry. I don’t feel personally insulted but my wife and many thousands of good people like her have been insulted. One person’s joke is another person’s insult but context, intent and motivation is vital in rational assessment. Is the joke part of a comedian’s script in a comedy club where people have assembled to be entertained? Is the joke part of a friendly inter-change between friends? Robust banter? Or is it a distasteful and insulting comment […]
